Job Description

We are seeking a support worker for 20 year old male who has a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Tourette’s, Global developmental delay, ADHD, and Epilepsy. The gentleman has a vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) fitted for management of his epilepsy needs. VNS requires swiping when DK is experiencing seizure activity. He may also require administration of oral rescue medication for prolonged seizure activity as per his Epilepsy Care Plan.
 The gentleman attends Flourish FE 5 days per week a further education provision (term time)
Key Responsibilities: Arrive at learner home for 8:30am to support health of client on journey to Flourish FE.
Support the health and care needs throughout the day at Flourish, working alongside education support staff.
Continually monitor and observe potential for seizure and implement protocol as required.
Administer VNS swipe protocols and medications as required by epilepsy care plan.
Return with learner at the end of the day to support with health and care on journey to the home setting.
Working alongside education support staff, attend trips and visits in the community and when required this may include an overnight stay on a residential trip.
Undertake regular update training with regards to epilepsy awareness and rescue medication administration as well as VNS training.
Skills Required:
Awareness and understanding of SEN complex high needs – autism
Willingness to undertake regular training and update training re DKs health needs
Excellent communication skills and team work ethic.
The ability to adapt and support DK to be able to take part in all learning activities – this will include physical activities and includes support in swimming and will also include working with animals and support in various community and workplace environments.
